Bring your website to life with video!

I’m writing today with a GREAT offer from one of my clients. Terry Simpson of TVisions specializes in “customized Walk-on Web and Marketing Videos“. I designed his logo and website which recently went live. For a limited time Terry has agreed to offer anyone on my list a 10% discount just for mentioning my name! Take a look at his website and see if you don’t agree that a video could bring YOUR website to life. If you decide to go for it, I’ll even throw in adding the code to your site for no charge. How’s that for a great deal?!

Spam Research & Solutions

No doubt the current flood of spam into our inboxes grows more frustrating every day. Spam is such a small word but causes such huge problems for both business and home users. Whether you call it spam, junk mail or unsolicited commercial email (UCE) the end result is the same; an inbox full of useless junk.

There are three main places where spam can be stopped. They are either at your PC (client based), your ISP (server based) or at a web-based filtering solution. If your website is hosted through me, you know that when our server was upgraded the server-based solution, SpamAssassin, has failed to keep up with the flow of spam. I’ve been working with them to improve the situation to no avail.

So now I’m in the process of researching other options. I plan to do a free trial with the anti-spam tools listed below. I’m in the first week of using SPAMFighter and I’m quite impressed. It’s caught all my spam and had no false calls. Except for Spam Arrest the others all work at your PC level by creating a box to trap spam. Spam Arrest is web-based, letting you white list your address book but requiring anyone else to first be approved. Here’s my list (there are many more out there):

  • CA Anti Spam Plus: $29/year I used this before they changed the name (from Qurb) and liked it a lot. At the time it was a one-time fee and I didn’t like that they changed to an annual subscription. But now they’re all by annual subscription.
  • CloudMark: Used by Comcast, 15 day free trial, $40/year for up to 2 computers.
  • SPAMFighter: 1 mo pro free then either $29/year or you can continue to use standard version for free (ad in signature block)
  • Spam Arrest: I’m not sure I’m going to try this one as I don’t really like this approach. I’ve included it in case you’d like to try it. Let me know what you think.

A new WordPress-based website

I just completed a new WordPress site which uses a greatly modified professional theme called Abstract, from WooThemes. Personal Coach, Chyrl Mosley in Kentucky is excited to be able to add and modify her own content after only one training session. One of the goals was to have her new website live in time for her radio interview … TODAY!

Vacation Email & My Schedule

I didn’t used to setup vacation email, you know the kind that says “out of office”. I thought it encouraged spammers. Not so anymore. And it’s so easy to do. If you are hosted with me you can do it with a couple of clicks by accessing your webmail and clicking on AutoResponders. Call me if you need help setting it up before your next vacation. Just be sure you don’t wait until I’m away!

We have a couple of trips planned this summer. Please be sure to give me plenty of time to complete anything you might need during my absence. We’ll be gone June 26-July 5 and then again July 29-August 8. Thanks & enjoy the summer weather (when it gets here)!
